Clayton Reabow – Moreson

This bundle of adrenaline is bound to turn your legs into jelly at first sight. Clayton is the winemaker at Moreson outside Franschhoek and adventure is the name of his game. This well-travelled hunk loves the out doors and when he’s not in the cellar he’s out on his surf board. Clayton’s wine-making talents have earned him several awards, including young winemaker of the year in 2009. He is as popular as a solar deity among the ladies and they just can’t get enough of him and his wines.

A: Recently engaged

Q: If you were a type of wine, what variety would you be?
A: A Cabernet Franc based Bordeaux blend like Cheval blanc. Very unique, versatile and unexploited.

Q: What’s your favourite Moreson wine?
A: My favourite Moreson wine is our Premium Chardonnay. 100 % wild fermentation and 100 % wild MLF.

Q: Share a secret of Moreson that we probably don’t know?
A: Moreson’s first winemaking team, that produced its first vintage, were the current owners of the farm, the Friedmans.

A: What is one unique thing are you afraid of?
Q: Being confronted by a lion.

Q: You can only put one thing on your sandwich. What will it be?
A: Cheese and syrup. Yes, its two things.

Q: Do you dance crazy when no one is looking?
A: No way. I am a very shy dancer that only comes out after a few glasses of wine.

Q: If you had one word to describe yourself , what would you choose?
A: Enigmatic

Q: If you could take a year off an go travelling, where would it be?
A: One of my favourite areas to go travelling is the East. I love places like Thailand.

Q: Have you ever thrown up in a car?
A: hmmm. While working in Germany, I was living with 2 Australians and 1 other South African guy. After a beer fest, me and the other South African dude fell asleep (passed out) while travelling home. We were living at the base of a mountain on the Mosel river. The aussies drove us up the mountain and left us there for the night. When we finally woke, we were very dissorientated and discovered that one of us had thrown up in the car. To this day, we are not certain who was responsible. It could not have been me!!

Q: You can flip a switch that will wipe any band or musical artist off the earth? Who would it be?
A: I would have to say every CD that belongs to Hannes Meyer. I have listened to way more Afrikaans music than I would like to admit.

Q: Do you think people should eat the fish they catch, or just let them go?
A: That depends on how hungry you are. We took my fiance ( girlfriend at the time ) fishing along the wild coast a few years back. She caught her first fish which was probably undersize. Never the less, tradition made her gut it and we all had a bite.

Q: If you could be born into history as any famous person who would it be and why?
A: If you had asked me this question when I was a child, I would have answered Wolverine from the X-men. There is no single famous person that I would like to be. Instead, I would like to meet the most influential people who had the power to shape our future.

Q: Do you have a secret talent and what is it?
A: Yes, I enjoy making people laugh

Q: What song always makes you happy when you hear it?
A: The one from the old Leon Schuster movies, “Province, Province, Province, die curry cup kom weer” ha ha ha. Im a Sharks fan.

Q: Would you rather be good looking or rich?
A: Comfortably wealthy thank you.
