WIN!!! R60 000′s worth in prizes up for grabs in the 2011 Stellenbosch Hills Freddy Hirst Biltong and Droewors Challenge
“Stellenbosch Hills is the first cellar to combine two proudly South African delights with their Biltong & Droëwors Adventure to be enjoyed in the cellar door. The art of drying meat nowadays is as specialised as the art of wine making. Our aim was to create a competition where three of South Africa’s most popular products – wine and biltong and droëwors – could be combined. ” says PG Slabbert, winemaker and manager at this cellar.
The Sponsor
This year’s competition is much bigger than previous years, especially as Freddy Hirsch, South Africa’s foremost spice suppliers to the meat industry, has signed up as sponsor for this competition. The Biltong maker of the year competition has proven to be a huge success since its inception 3 years ago, and this year we have added another leg to the competition, by introducing the Droëwors maker of the year competition for the first time.
“We support Stellenbosch Hills’ aim of an annual competition that combines two of South Africa’s most known products, biltong and droëwors. This competition suits our consumers perfectly,” said Rui Jardim Group Marketing Manager of Freddy Hirsch.
The Inspiration
Each year a different Stellenbosch Hills wine is chosen to be the inspiration for entrants. The winner’s biltong or droëwors must complement this chosen wine to the best. This year the choice of wine is the Stellenbosch Hills Shiraz 2007.
The Prize
Entrants can use any meat for their entries and prizes of R60 000 are up for grabs. The judging will take place during August after which six finalists will be announced, three for each category.
A prize winner’s lunch will take place on 1 September 2011 in Stellenbosch where the winner and a second and third prize will be announced.
How to enter
Prospective rivals can order entry packets at a cost of R200. This includes a bottle of Stellenbosch Hills Shiraz 2007 a Freddy Hirsch spice pack as well as delivery costs for the entry pack.
