Vino Varsity went down last Friday.

UCT kicked some ass and took the honours. Well done Ikey Ice Buckets.

Rhodes took part for the first time.

Maties surprised everyone by coming second.

But life’s about more than just the basics, the beauty of wine and life is in the details. Here they are:

Firday afternoon, there is a slight drizzle misting over the bare vineyards of Backsberg Estate Cellars in Paarl. The organizers finishing up on some details – wrapping up the 30 wines for the blind tasting round which kicked off the competition. Loads of Backsberg Chenin and Dry Red were waiting for the 150 student supporters who were to arrive at any moment. The Backsberg convention centre stood quiet, microphones on, chairs empty, with the atmosphere of a stadium before a match.
