Fynbos Flowers in Full Bloom at Steenberg
Gardens full of colour, buzzing insects looking for nectar, carrying pollen from one flower to another. Plants waking from yearly slumber, showing flowers too many to number! Natures’ alarm clock has rung, spring has sprung.
Situated in the Cape Floral Kingdom, the plant life at Steenberg is rich and diverse. A world biodiversity hotspot, the Cape Floral Kingdom possesses endemic fynbos plants which have unique reproductive strategies and patterns of seed dispersal by insects. It is the smallest of the worlds’ six floral kingdoms, and the only one to be contained within one country. The Table Mountain region (within which Steenberg falls) is one of the eight protected regions inside of the Cape Floral Kingdom.
