Annual Constantia Potjiekos Gees
Every year, winemakers, sales assistants and sales and marketing staff from the nine Constantia wine farms gather for a traditional potjiekos competition. As soon as the last grapes are in and things have slowed down a touch, everyone in the Valley jumps at the chance to get together for a catch-up.
Once all the pre-potjie banter is dealt with, the fires are lit and it’s business time. Each farm has its own potjie dig out, with the pot tended to carefully by the chef in charge, usually the winemaker. Whilst he’s toiling away others socialise and chat over a choice glass of wine in anticipation for the food to come. Between the farms many different pots are made, ranging from oxtail and lamb neck to more left-field rabbit and even quail.
