The world`s first beer bike
Beer drinking and bike riding — two popular summer pastimes that should not normally be brought together — are coming together and Kichesippi Beer Co. has found a way to do it — legally.
The Ottawa brewery will launch what they believe is the first-ever beer bike in Canada this weekend. Kichesippi Beer Co. worked with Tall Tree Cycles to create a rustic-looking bicycle complete with a 50-litre keg, a countertop and a functioning tap for fresh, cold brews.
The idea came to mind last winter when the two businesses started talking. Tall Tree Cycles, which has made custom bicycles before, saw the cargo bike design work for beer delivery in Europe and proposed a similar idea to Kichesippi Beer Co.
“At first, I thought it was a totally weird idea. ” says Paul Meek, co-owner of the brewery, which is located on Campbell Avenue, near Carling and Cole. “But this is a natural extension when we look at keg delivery.”
