Travelling Wines
Hello from a slightly chillier than usual cellar, I hope all of you are doing well! It’s getting cold high up on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, but at the moment the cellar is, believe it or not, even a few degrees colder…
We are preparing for our mid-July bottling and that involves chilling down the tanks big time! Thick layers of ice cover most of the tanks as we are busy with our cold stabilization, but on the other side of the cellar it’s actually nice and warm. We try and keep the barrel cellar at close to 20 degrees Celsius at the moment with all the malolactic fermentation going on. Needless to say we don’t mind topping up our barrels right now!
I had a great time at the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show sharing our medal winning 2009 Merlot with guests and listening to some of their stories. Two ladies told me about their travelling bottles of Creation wine. One took a bottle to a restaurant, they didn’t finish it and – would you believe it? – she corked it up and took the rest home, much to her daughter’s surprise. The other lady took a bottle of Creation to Turkey, thinking she will share it with the group one evening. Guess what? She told me the whole sharing thing didn’t sound that great when it was time for wine, so she kept quiet, brought it back and enjoyed it herself, every last drop! They both told me their stories with a big smile on their faces and it’s great to hear and see that people really enjoy our wines!
