New Cellar, New Wines at Backsberg
FIRST PHASE OF NEW CELLAR COMPLETE
The first phase of our cellar upgrade was complete in time for the harvest. The process saw us lifting all our tanks, and in so doing take the first step in creating a fully gravitational cellar. The main objective is to minimise the handling of berries. We also purchased a fancy, new berry sorting machine from France, which worked like a charm. All very exciting news, and will only contribute to further increasing the quality of our wines in the future.
NEW WINES
After a successful harvest in our new cellar we have moved on to a few new vintages. Please click here to view our latest price list. We are also very excited about some new wines:

Kosher Kiddush Sweet Red Wine
This sweet Merlot displays raspberry and red plum aromas combined with succulent fruit flavours and finely coated tannins ensuring a pleasurable drinking experience. This wine is perfect for those with a sweet tooth!
It is best enjoyed as an aperitif before or after dinner and can be aged up to 20 years. The wine is Muvushal and Kosher for Passover. Made under the auspices of the Cape Town Beth Din and the OU of the United States.
R46 per bottle, R276 per case of 6.

Beyond Borders Pinot Noir
This Pinot Noir offers engaging aromas of strawberry and blackberry, with delicate, savoury textures and hints of spice on the palate. Ready to drink now but worth ageing for three to five years. A delightful wine to enjoy with salmon, pasta and poultry dishes.
Why the name? We have gone way beyond Paarl in producing this wine. We have sourced some fantastic grapes from a vineyard in Elgin. Cool in climate, Elgin is a top region for growing Pinot Noir. Interestingly, many moons ago, we used to make a Pinot from grapes grown on the farm, so we are not completely new to Pinot Noir. This is a must-buy.
R97 per bottle. R582 per case of 6.

Please watch the website and our newsletter for news on our two upcoming events. On the 13th October we will be having our annual tree planting and Champagne breakfast, starting at 09h00 for 09h30. This is an opportunity for you to support Backsberg’s carbon neutral initiative as well as plant a tree in your family’s name. You can request a plaque to mark this event.
This year’s Wine Club lunch will take place on the 24 November at 12h00 . Last year we held a dinner in the vat cellar and had a wonderful time pairing our top wines with delicious courses prepared by our kitchen. This year will be a similar format but in the day so that more people can attend and not be concerned about driving at night.
