White Wine Sales On The Up
Hong Kong is a city that loves its red wine. From Bordeaux, to Napa to Barossa, red wine consumption far outweighs white wine and it has always, traditionally, been more popular here. The English introduced red wine in the 19th century when they were here fighting the Opium Wars with China and is popularity has remained ever since. But in a hot, tropical country, one would expect white wine sales to be better than they are and things have changed in recent years and white wine sales are now, finally, on the up.
Traditionally, it had been thought that drinking cold drinks is bad for you and thus, a cold drink such as white wine has been shunned for many years. But recently, with the advent of numerous, if not daily, wine dinners in the territory, people are beginning to see that white wine, more so than red, is an excellent match to Cantonese cuisine.
